5 ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR ENJOYING THIS SEASON https://alicanteturismo.com/en/5-essential-tips-for-enjoying-this-season/ Fri, 12 Dec 2025 09:28:58 +0000 https://alicanteturismo.com/5-essential-tips-for-enjoying-this-season/

5 ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR ENJOYING THIS SEASON

Five recommendations for living life to the fullest this winter!

1. Urban trails under the winter sun

Alicante combines sea, beaches, green areas and mountains very close to the city centre, making it an ideal destination for those who enjoy hiking. Its trails allow you to discover the city at a leisurely pace, in contact with nature and with the mild Mediterranean climate as your ally.

Among the most popular routes are Cabo de la Huerta, Torres de la Huerta, El Campo–Tabarca, the walled citadel of Tabarca, Benacantil, Serra Grossa, La Ereta and La Marjal parks, El Tossal and Monte Orgegia.

2. The city dresses up for Carnival

Carnival is one of the most eagerly awaited celebrations for the people of Alicante. Music, costumes and a festive atmosphere fill the streets, especially during Ramblero Saturday Night, when the Rambla de Méndez Núñez becomes a huge party venue open to everyone.

In the days leading up to it, Dijous de Gras and Viernes de Pregón are celebrated, while the Burial of the Sardine and Domingo de Piñata bring the festivities to a close. In 2026, Carnival will take place in mid-February, and it is one of the most popular events after the Hogueras de San Juan.

3. Plan your trip with our maps and guides

Explore Alicante at your own pace with the resources we provide. Our maps and guides include practical information on monuments, cultural routes, beaches, natural areas, transport, gastronomy and other points of interest. Alicante Tourist Map A comprehensive map to help you find your way around the city and locate monuments, museums, shopping areas and must-see places.

Alicante Tourist Guide Recommendations, itineraries and everything you need to enjoy the city at any time of year.

Get ready for a comfortable, safe and complete experience.

4. Alicante, a cultural treasure beyond its beaches

Winter is the perfect time to discover Alicante’s cultural wealth. Its museums and exhibition spaces offer experiences that go far beyond the traditional image of sun and sea.

The MARQ stands out for its innovative approach to presenting archaeology, from prehistory to the contemporary age, alongside temporary exhibitions such as Dénia, Archaeology and Museum, available until April 2026.

The Ocean Race Museum looks back over more than 50 years of round-the-world sailing, with a focus on nautical technology and sustainability.

The MUBAG, in the Gravina Palace, presents a selection of 19th-century art and, until 3 May, is hosting the exhibition The Romantic Era, with nearly 300 pieces from the National Museum of Romanticism.

The Las Cigarreras Cultural Centre, a former tobacco factory converted into a space for contemporary creation, is currently hosting the 12th edition of PhotoAlicante (until 10 January 2026) and the audiovisual installation B-U-G-S (until 26 February).

5. Be sure to try the delicious rice dishes from Alicante.

Alicante cuisine reflects everything that surrounds it: the Mediterranean, the orchards and the mountains. Rice is its great emblem and, thanks to local products, it acquires its own character. Fresh fish and seafood, seasonal vegetables and game meat from the inland regions shape recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

The distinctive Alicante City of Rice label recognises restaurants that prepare this dish with particular skill, from creamy rice dishes to traditional arroces a banda or Alicante-style rice dishes.

5 ESSENTIAL SUGGESTIONS TO ENJOY THIS SEASON

Five recommendations for living life to the fullest this autumn!

1. Music also plays at the golden station

Although summer has taken away some of the most powerful festivals and concerts on the calendar, don’t be discouraged: the new season brings us musical offerings that are as varied as they are attractive, with genres for all tastes. Take note:

  • Rocanrola, Spain’s biggest rap and urban culture festival, is back (Multiespacio Rabasa, 9-11 October). The fourth edition of this event will feature artists such as Nach, Kase.O, Morodo and Cruz Cafuné, among others, and will offer complementary activities and competitions on three stages, as well as the Living Park.
  • Alicante is launching a new music venue with El Muelle Live (Pier 12 of the Port), which will host national and international acts such as Beret, the musical Malinche, Ana Belén, the Rumba Viva and AMA festivals — dedicated to the 80s and 90s — and The Waterboys.
  • The Alicante International Blues Festival celebrates its seventh edition (Teatro Principal, 8 October).
  • Producciones Baltimore inaugurates the Marmarela club, the largest indoor concert venue in Alicante with a capacity for 2,000 people. The “Baltimore Live” series has already confirmed León Benavente (Muelle de Levante 14, 22 November).
  • The 9th Mediterranean Flamenco Festival once again fills the city with flamenco art (Aula de Cultura de la Fundación Mediterráneo, 24 October – 28 November).

2. Discover the soul of Alicante

Alicante is home to some of the most iconic monuments on the Costa Blanca. Strolling through the city in autumn, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, is the perfect opportunity to rediscover its history and heritage. Places that are worth at least one visit: Santa Bárbara Castle, towering over Mount Benacantil, offers one of the best views of the city and holds centuries of history within its halls and walls.

  • The Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás and the Basilica of Santa María, jewels of religious heritage, are essential stops for those who enjoy art and architecture.
  • Other places steeped in history are the Monastery of Santa Faz, the MARQ – Archaeological Museum of Alicante, and the streets of the Old Town, where every corner tells a story about the city’s past.
Let yourself be carried away by history and experience Alicante from its roots.
  • 3. Table and tablecloth in the Spanish capital of gastronomy

Alicante is the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025, and autumn is the perfect time to savour this distinction.

A city with a culinary soul, based on local produce, tradition and innovation. This season you can enjoy some tasty offerings:

    • The first “Alacroqueta” festival, from 26 to 28 September at Espacio Séneca.
    • Gastro Lunches with an Alicante flavour, from 25 September to 5 October at various establishments participating in the initiative.
    • Giant coca de mollitas competition, on Saturday 18 October on Avenida de la Constitución.
    • Gastro Cinema Festival, from 18 to 23 October, screenings at MARQ and parallel activities in other venues around the city.
    • International Congress ‘Alicante, historic capital of wine’, from 29 to 31 October at the MARQ.
    • Second semi-final of the 2025-2026 Chef and Waiter of the Year Competition, on 13 November, at the CdT in Alicante.

    4. Alicante on the move

Don’t Get Burned During The “Hogueras”: Tips for Enjoying the Hogueras de San Juan https://alicanteturismo.com/en/dont-get-burned-during-hogueras-tips-for-enjoying-the-bonfires-of-san-juan/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 11:40:38 +0000 https://alicanteturismo.com/dont-get-burned-during-hogueras-tips-for-enjoying-the-bonfires-of-san-juan/

We want to share some recommendations so you don’t "get burned" during the Hogueras de San Juan.

Alicante’s biggest festival, Les Fogueres de Sant Joan, is just around the corner! For several days, it’s time to have fun, meet up with friends, and fully enjoy Alicante. But don't get burned during the Hogueras.

    Use Public Transportation

The city center is closed to traffic due to the setup of les Fogueres, racos, and barracas, allowing pedestrians to fully enjoy a transformed Alicante. These are special days, so embrace this unique experience.

Stay Hydrated and Protect Yourself from the Sun

It’s hot, so make sure to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun. Wear comfortable, light, and breathable clothing. Carry a bottle of water and drink regularly. Apply sunscreen, and it’s best to also protect your head. Mascletas take place around 2 PM, a time when crowds gather and the sun is at its strongest. Follow these tips to avoid dizziness or heat exhaustion.

Protect Your Ears During the “Mascletas”

If you attend a mascletà, be aware that the noise during these fifteen minute firework displays is not only thrilling but also deafening and potentially harmful to your ears. Sound levels can reach up to 130 decibels during the pyrotechnic explosions. Using earplugs with valves or simple techniques like chewing gum, swallowing, or keeping your mouth slightly open can help protect your ears, especially for children, who can use specially designed earplugs or protective earmuffs.

    Drink in Moderation

These are days of eating, drinking, and enjoying great company. In Alicante, tradition dictates eating coca amb tonyina (a tuna-filled savory pastry) on La Planta, June 20th. This delicious treat, made with tuna belly and onions among other ingredients, is typically paired with fresh figs, which are in peak season just before San Juan. Bars and restaurants will be packed during the festivities, so be patient—and most importantly, drink responsibly. If you do, you’ll enjoy everything even more!

    Hogueras de San Juan Anthem

Have fun and carry the spirit of les Fogueres with you! If you like, here’s the Official Hogueras Anthem and a ringtone you can download to keep the festival spirit right in the palm of your hand.

    • Himno de las Hogueras de San Juan

    Feel the City

Enjoy walking through areas that are usually reserved for cars. Take a moment to admire les Fogueres and appreciate the hard work behind each one. Let yourself be carried away by the music that fills the streets.

    Christmas Recipe: Alicante Nougat (Turron) https://alicanteturismo.com/en/christmas-recipe-alicante-nougat/ Tue, 08 Oct 2024 08:07:27 +0000 https://alicanteturismo.com/christmas-recipe-alicante-nougat/

    Christmas Recipe: Alicante Nougat (Turron)

    Ingredients for 4 people

    • 150 g of honey
    • 150 g of sugar
    • 250 g of roasted skinless almonds
    • 1 egg white
    • 2 wafers

    Preparation
Put the sugar and honey in a saucepan. Heat over low heat and stir until everything is well mixed. When it starts to boil, leave it for a few more minutes and remove from heat.

Whisk the egg white and add it to the mixture, stirring gently so it doesn’t set. Return the saucepan to low heat and stir constantly until it reaches a caramel-like consistency. Add the almonds, mix well, and let it rest until it cools slightly.

Line a mold with parchment paper, place a wafer on the bottom, and pour the mixture over it. Place the other wafer on top and let it cool for several hours.

The Spanish version of nougat was born in the province of Alicante around the 15th century. In 1582, a document from the municipality of Alicante states that from time immemorial, each year the city of Alicante is accustomed, for Christmas festivities, to pay its salaries, partly in money and partly in a present given to them, of an arroba of nougat.

Almonds and honey were already used in Al-Andalus for the production of numerous sweets. Currently, a large part of Spanish confectionery maintains part of this legacy with sweets such as nougat.

During the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, nougat was produced in both Jijona and Alicante. In the time of Charles II, the interference of the guilds of pastry chefs from the city of Valencia organized under the “Colegio de la Cera,” sought to regulate the nougat production in Alicante. This led to a legal dispute, as they attempted to subject Alicante’s nougat and confectionery makers to their regulations. For this reason and due to the novelty that chocolate represented, its production in Alicante largely disappeared, with Jijona, further removed from the attention of the Valencian guild corporations, becoming the only major center of nougat production since then.

Today, Spain is the world’s leading producer of nougat, marzipan, and Christmas sweets.

    Snorkeling Guide in Tabarca

The island of Tabarca, 11 nautical miles from Alicante, offers us countless spots to enjoy snorkeling with simple goggles and observe its exceptional underwater richness.

Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Valencian community. Thanks to minimal human impact, its waters and seabed have remained in excellent condition, leading to the creation of Spain’s first Marine Reserve.
Recreational fishing is prohibited, and scuba diving requires authorization. But if we want to snorkel, we can do it freely in inland waters, where no permit is required.

Its crystal-clear waters make our aquatic walk feel like when seagulls fly over this landscape. We also enjoy here the clear overhead view that reveals a seabed where Posidonia meadows prevail along with their associated species, as well as endless rock formations that serve as hiding places for countless animals.

Welcome to Tabarca, the Mediterranean paradise for snorkeling.

Snorkeling is a fun and family-friendly activity that can be enjoyed to the fullest in Tabarca. Here are some important tips to ensure your experience is safe, enjoyable, and environmentally responsible:

    • Avoid entering the water when it is murky, wavy, or has strong currents.
    • Always carry a buoy, it not only marks your position but can also provide flotation support if needed.
    • Stay alert to boats, especially during the summer season.
    •  Wear a life vest for added safety.
    • Respect plants and animals, no matter how insignificant they may seem.
    • Remove any plastic waste you find to prevent marine animals from ingesting it.
    • Avoid feeding the fish as it disrupts their natural feeding habits.
    • Avoid touching or disturbing wildlife, including refraining from bothering octopuses or taking starfish out of the water.
    • Avoid removing any living organisms from the seabed. if you want souvenirs, take photos instead!
